I have always considered myself a friend of the forest, a tree hugger, if you will. As a kid, I was always outside playing in the dirt, barefoot, grass between my toes. "Don't touch any toads, or you'll get warts", my dad always warned me, but I didn't care; the toads were my friends and I was theirs. If you couldn't find me digging up worms, making a fort out of sticks, or catching lightning bugs in an old toothpick container (don't worry, it had holes in it), all you had to do was look up into the trees and there I'd be, book in hand. Not only did I grow up with a nature-loving hippie soul, but I grew up with a nose in a book.
Books were my safety blanket, and still are, to this day. My mom told me that when I was younger, I would go to bed every night with a stack of books just as a "normal" child would with a teddy bear. I brought a book or two with me everywhere I went, even if it meant bringing one to the movie theater because it was "just in case". To combine my passion for reading and my passion for art, I would love to design/create book covers some day! Within each of my works, I use my style of heavy linework to bring them to life; to make them stand out. I aim to capture my love for nature and my different curiosities throughout my work, the pen or pencil merely becoming an extension of my hand.
